The Zurich Center for Imaging Science and Technology (CIMST) aims to
invent, develop and host cutting-edge imaging solutions. By implementing a comprehensive pallet of methods, CIMST creates a
unique and trend-setting imaging platform, covering length scales from
the
atomic level to geophysical dimensions. CIMST fosters collaboration and exchange of know-how across disciplines and institutions. It educates and trains scientists both from the academic and industrial sector. Furthermore, CIMST provides a contact point for industrial and political leaders interested in imaging.
CIMST was established in 2006 to link and coordinate the impressively strong imaging-related research in the Greater Zurich Area. CIMST is a competence center of University and ETH Zurich, but a harmonic and fruitful cooperation with other research institutions and industrial partners is one of its main corner stones. More than 50 research groups with diverse backgrounds from ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich, Zurich University Hospital, the Paul-Scherer-Institute (PSI) and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) are affiliated with CIMST.
Currently a major thrust of the CIMST activities is in the area of bio-medical imaging. With a broad scientific and technical composition, CIMST serves the Swiss biological and medical communities and helps educate young scientists who will one day lead the emerging academic and industrial sectors. At present, the educational program includes an International Summer School on Multiscale Bio-medical Imaging as well as several other topical courses. CIMST has played a central role in the formation of the National Competence Center for Bio-medical Imaging (NCCBI) funded by the ETH Council (ETH Rat).
